Peter Pan - The Pantomime

Peter Pan – A New Pantomime Adventure was a spectacular, high-flying festive pantomime presented by Little Wolf Entertainment at Loughborough Town Hall for the 2023–2024 Christmas season. Written and directed by Morgan Brind, this imaginative adaptation of J. M. Barrie's beloved story transported audiences to the magical world of Neverland, combining traditional pantomime comedy with spectacular scenery, colourful costumes, musical performances, theatrical special effects and plenty of audience participation. The production marked the tenth anniversary of the successful partnership between Little Wolf Entertainment and Loughborough Town Hall, celebrating a decade of creating ambitious, award-winning pantomimes for audiences across Leicestershire and beyond. The story follows Peter Pan, the mischievous and adventurous boy who refuses to grow up, as he takes audiences on an extraordinary journey to Neverland, a fantastical world filled with pirates, mermaids, fairies and the legendary Lost Boys. Alongside the spirited and magical Tinker Bell, Peter must face his greatest enemy, the villainous Captain Hook, whose determination to defeat Peter threatens the happiness and freedom of Neverland. With the help of his friends, Peter embarks on a series of daring adventures, encountering eccentric characters, dangerous situations and plenty of unexpected surprises along the way. This original pantomime adaptation introduced a range of colourful characters and comic personalities, including the outrageous pantomime dame Auntie Histamine, the mischievous Quick Draw Macaw, Eliza, Starkey and Marilyn the Mermaid. Each character contributed to the production's distinctive combination of slapstick comedy, musical entertainment and traditional pantomime storytelling. The production starred Liam Watson as Peter Pan, Josh Dodding as Captain Hook, Mya Fox-Scott as Tink and Matthew Siveter as Auntie Histamine. They were joined by Lottie Mae O'Kill as Eliza, Harry Polden as Quick Draw Macaw, Joshua Elliot as Starkey and Georgia Jowett as Marilyn the Mermaid. Under Morgan Brind's direction, the production delivered a fast-paced theatrical experience filled with elaborate comedy routines, energetic musical numbers, spectacular visual effects and imaginative staging. The combination of traditional pantomime conventions and contemporary theatrical techniques created a production designed to entertain audiences of all ages. The show's technical and visual elements played a significant role in bringing the magical world of Neverland to life. Elaborate scenery and striking costumes established the contrasting environments of the story, from the colourful fantasy landscapes of Neverland to the dangerous world of Captain Hook and his pirate crew. Atmospheric theatrical lighting, sound effects and carefully coordinated stage transitions supported the storytelling, creating moments of excitement, suspense, comedy and magic. High-flying effects and large-scale theatrical spectacle helped transform the stage into an adventurous fantasy world, while dynamic lighting and visual changes complemented the musical numbers and action sequences. The production required close collaboration between the creative team, performers, stage management and technical departments to deliver its complex staging and effects consistently throughout the festive performance schedule. With musical direction by Dave Culling and choreography by Jordanna Simpson, the production combined lively musical entertainment with expressive movement and colourful ensemble performances. The musical numbers and choreography added energy and variety to the show, while traditional pantomime routines encouraged audiences to become part of the adventure through cheering, laughter and interaction with the performers. The production also demonstrated a commitment to accessible theatre, offering a British Sign Language interpreted performance and a relaxed performance for audiences with sensory or learning difficulties. Throughout its festive run, Peter Pan – A New Pantomime Adventure entertained approximately 20,000 audience members across 40 performances. The production received widespread critical acclaim, including a five-star review from The Stage, with reviewers praising its comedy, imaginative staging, colourful costumes and impressive theatrical spectacle. At its heart, Peter Pan – A New Pantomime Adventure celebrated the power of imagination, friendship, courage and the importance of believing in magic. The production combined the nostalgia of a much-loved children's story with the excitement and humour of traditional British pantomime, creating a festive theatrical experience for families and audiences of all generations. Running from 25 November 2023 until 7 January 2024, the production was a major part of Loughborough Town Hall's festive programme and celebrated ten years of successful collaboration with Little Wolf Entertainment. Through its combination of theatrical creativity, ambitious technical production and engaging performances, Peter Pan demonstrated the enduring popularity of pantomime and the importance of regional theatre in bringing large-scale entertainment to local communities.
